Course summary

The BSc Sociology is an innovative, critically engaged and globally oriented degree designed for students eager to understand how societies are built, governed and transformed.

Grounded in strong sociological foundations, the programme brings theory to life through hands-on research, creative projects and real-world case studies. You will gain a deep understanding of global transformations, institutions, cultures, inequalities and technologies, examined through classical, contemporary and critical perspectives. Sociology at King’s asks ambitious questions about how the world works and provides you with the analytical and research skills to explore these questions with rigour and confidence. With London as your living sociological laboratory, you will learn to connect powerful sociological ideas to urgent global challenges — from migration and digital life to climate justice and governance.

Key Benefits

  • Experience London as a living sociological laboratory, connecting classroom learning to activism, policy, community engagement, and everyday urban life.

  • Study sociology in depth: build a strong foundation in the key concepts, theories and research tools that sociologists use to understand how societies work and how positive change can be achieved.

  • Develop a wide range of invaluable research skills through training in qualitative and quantitative methods; learn how to design studies, gather and analyse data, and communicate insights effectively.

  • Learn through creative and hands‑on teaching, from fieldwork and data analysis to applied projects and collaborative workshops.

  • Classes are exciting and welcoming, taught by leading sociologists whose research shapes international debates on inequality, migration, science and technology, health, reproduction, global ageing and social change.

  • Experience London as a fascinating sociological laboratory and connect classroom learning to activism, policy, community engagement and everyday urban life.
