Course summary

Our BSc (Hons) Management course gives our students core, foundational knowledge in an expansive range of business areas to instil confidence and further your interest in different areas. The flexible course structure means you can tailor your degree to suit your interests and career goals, giving you greater control over your future direction. Students can continue to study a full range of management subjects or choose to specialise in one of our five specialisms which will be reflected in your degree title: Accounting and Finance, Human Resources, Innovation Strategy and Entrepreneurship, International Business Economics, or Marketing.

BSc (Hons) Management students will be able to choose from our extensive portfolio of course units, including enterprise and innovation modules informed and taught by the Masood Entrepreneurship Centre (MEC) , ethical and sustainable business, finance and economics, digital transformation and AI, human resources, business law, and marketing strategy.

Final year students will be able to choose to undertake a dissertation, work on a live consultancy project, or continue to study a combination of diverse subject areas. Students who opt to pursue a dissertation will be able to focus on an area specific to their interests and research it in greater depth. Students working on a consultancy project will be assigned to a client company and work alongside it to implement their knowledge gained throughout the course to deliver change and implement new business processes.

Assessment method

Essays, multiple choice tests, project reports and presentations, in-class tests and weekly assignments constitute the coursework component of assessment, although the nature and proportion of coursework varies across course units. The remainder of assessment is by unseen examination. Depending on the degree course, in your final year you can choose to do a research-based dissertation or project. We aim to strike a balance between examinations and assessed coursework as well as providing opportunities for feedback on progress through non-assessed work.

We will consider the subjects you have taken in addition to your individual grades. Due to the popularity of our courses we may prioritise applicants based on the number of preferred subjects that they are studying. We may also take into consideration the combination of subjects taken. Please use the list below to check our preferred subjects for BSc (Hons) Management / BSc (Hons) Management (Specialism) / BSc (Hons) International Management:

Accounting, Business Studies, Economics, English Language/Literature, Geography, Government and Politics, Law, Mathematics/Further Mathematics, Politics, Psychology, Quantitative Methods, Sociology and Statistics.

We accept native language A Levels providing they are taken in the same sitting as your other subjects. We will not accept the combination of Mathematics, Further Mathematics and a native language.

Applicants taking A Levels are normally expected to offer three full A Levels. If you’re taking more than three A Levels, these won’t be included in your offer. We will only make offers consisting of three A Levels.

Access to HE Diploma

We require a QAA-recognised Access to HE Diploma (a minimum of 60 credits overall with at least 45 at Level 3), with merit or distinction in a subject area relevant to the chosen course.

The specific course requirements are 60 credits with 45 credits at Level 3 at Distinction.

GCSE/National 4/National 5

Applicants must demonstrate a broad general education including acceptable levels of Literacy and Numeracy, equivalent to at least Grade 6 or B in GCSE/IGCSE English Language and Mathematics. GCSE/IGCSE English Literature will not be accepted in lieu of GCSE/IGCSE English Language.

Please note that if you hold English as a second language IGCSE qualification, we may also require you to offer one of  our acceptable equivalent English Language qualifications  or achieve a higher grade in your IGCSE than the one stated above. Extended Project

The University recognises the benefits of the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and the opportunities it provides for applicants to develop independent study and research skills. Although the Extended Project will not be included in the conditions of your offer, we strongly encourage you to provide information about the EPQ in your personal statement and at interview. A number of our academic Schools may also choose to take your performance in the EPQ into account should places be available in August for applicants who narrowly miss the entry grades for their chosen course.

We welcome and recognise the value of the Baccalaureate Wales and accept the Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales (replacing the Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate from September 2023)

We require minimum Grade A from the Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales.

For applicants who have studied the Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate, this qualification will still be accepted in lieu of one A-level (normally the lowest A-level grade listed).

Applicants completing the INTO Manchester in partnership with The University of Manchester international foundation programme in Humanities and Social Sciences, are required to achieve AAA (Mathematics must be taken as a subject module) and an EAP score of A with writing and speaking at grade A and listening and reading at grade B.

Applicants completing the NCUK International Foundation year are required to achieve AAA (Mathematics must be taken as a subject module) and an EAP score of A with writing and speaking at grade A and listening and reading at grade B.
