Finding your way into insurance, with the CII

At the CII, we want to help more young people to find their way into insurance. Our Professional Map provides a competency framework, career development tool and international benchmark for excellence that is understood around the world.

The CII Professional Map is a sector-wide framework that defines the skills, behaviours, and knowledge needed to succeed in insurance and personal finance today and in the future. In short, it sets out the behaviours and technical expertise at the heart of what it means to be a well-rounded professional. How do we know? Well, we asked insurance and financial planning professionals to design it with us. And then we’ve kept it up-to-date by asking them over time, ‘what’s changed?’ It’s been produced to be inclusive of every professional, wherever they work. Whether you’re in – or want to work in – broking, claims or underwriting, in London, Hong Kong or Dubai. And we’ve recently upgraded it to also include those working in shared services – like comms, HR and IT. It’s the common language that everyone around the world can use when talking about what is means to be an insurance or financial planning professional. As a result, we passionately believe that everybody who is looking to join or currently working in these sectors can benefit from using the Map. We consider it so important that we call it the CII’s ‘golden thread’, which we are weaving through our entire offer – from membership, to learning, to qualifications, and professional standards.
