My work focuses on autonomous large-scale systems and evolutionary algorithms, but I also enjoy exploring creative technology for education. I'm passionate about research, teaching, and helping new students settle into university life. My course of Psychology and Philosophy was my first formal study from the core functions, systems and structure of the brain to different viewpoints and perspectives in philosophy to understand the moral and ethical values of life. I consider learning, education and knowledge are key aspects in my life, it doesn’t necessarily lead down a path of academia, but I use everything I learn to inch me that wee bit forward to my goal. I’ve previously got experience in simple catering jobs, retail but I consider myself, first and foremost as swimmer teacher. If I’m strive to become an academic researcher at Strathclyde University.

I’m Shiam Rahman, and I’m currently studying Electronic and Electrical Engineering at Brunel University.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by electronic devices and how they work. Electrical engineering is like the "black magic" of engineering—it’s all happening behind the scenes, and yet, every little interaction, like the click of a button, is the result of someone’s design and innovation. I’m excited to dive deeper into how these systems work and, one day, be part of the tech industry that shapes our future.

Beyond engineering, I have a strong passion for art and design. I love drawing and painting people, and I also have skills in graphic design, image manipulation, and animation. My creative side really complements my technical interests, and I enjoy finding ways to blend the two.

At Brunel, I also work as a Student Recruitment and Widening Access Ambassador. It’s such a rewarding experience, and I love being part of a community that is all about supporting each other. Brunel is a fantastic place to study, make new friends, and take advantage of amazing facilities and support. I’d love to see you here!

My top activity is visiting a café with friends. I am a member of numerous society, both within my college and university wide, such as DU coffee society and John Snow Running Society.
My favourite area of geography is where physical and human geography intersect. Despite not knowing the direct career path I wish to take, my goal is to work in a job where I am helping others, either through interaction with individuals or policy-making.
