I am from Kilmarnock, Ayrshire where I grew up in a predominantly working-class area and family. I am the first member of my family to finish secondary school education and attend university. I initially came to Glasgow to study zoology but quickly changed to microbiology after discovering my passion for infectious diseases and lab work. I am secretary for Glasgow University Immunity & Infection Society and UofG Antimicrobials & Antimicrobial Resistance Society. I also run and act as secretary for an anti-hate crime charity in Kilmarnock called 4ward2gether which I have done since 2019. Starting university can be very daunting but don’t be nervous as so many other people are feeling the same! I will do my best to help you with any questions you may have!

Hi I’m Ellie and I’m a Second Year Pharmacy student. I will be at Lincoln for 3 more years and plan on becoming a pharmacist when I graduate. I did A Level Biology, Chemistry, Maths and EPQ and I am very familiar with the clearing process due to my A levels not going as expected so feel free to ask questions around this subject too! Clearing felt very daunting at first when things didn’t go as planned on results day, but the process was actually really easy and ended up finding the university that’s best for me. I also enjoy mathematics, not just as a tool for summarising economic models but as a way to deepen our understanding of the reasoning behind them.

Having studied in both Thai and UK education systems, I’ve experienced the transition first-hand, so I understand the challenges and adjustments involved. I’m also a Royal Thai Government scholar, which means I will return to Thailand after my studies to serve as a diplomat at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Beyond academics, I have worked closely with the Royal Thai Embassy, coordinating special occasions such as the National Day Reception and events for Thai student communities. I am British Italian with an Anglo-Indian heritage, and reside in London. My English and Creative Writing undergraduate degree will prepare me for an English Literature MA and PhD, specialising in 19th-century women's writing and its relevance to contemporaneous debates about feminism. I plan to become an English professor in an Italian university. I am also undertaking the TEFL diploma course which will aid me in teaching English in Milano, and an advanced Italian course to develop my language learning! Prosthetics for Film and Television, MA

From 2016-2018 I studied Art, Photography and Psychology A-Levels at Princethorpe College, Rugby, and after not being too sure of what I wanted to study at university I decided to throw myself into full time employment. I then came across the Specialist Hair and Media Make-Up course here at University College Birmingham and applied in 2020. Moving cities during the pandemic was very strange, however I soon became very comfortable at The Maltings where I lived with the majority of my classmates. After three years of study, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree and I have now moved onto studying Prosthetics for Film and Television MA. Alongside the masters degree, University College Birmingham gave me the opportunity to work for them as an intern in the Marketing Department as part of the masters internship bursary scheme, where my course is paid for in the form of 400 hours of work over the academic year (September-July), which has been a huge benefit for myself financially. I also work as a part time front of house team member at a restaurant in Birmingham city centre, I enjoy this job a lot as I get to interact with lots of different people, I also feel very accepted there as I am free to express myself with my piercings, tattoos and makeup.

I worked within secondary education for 22 years before starting my PhD research at Leeds Trinity University (LTU). My professional practice and personal ethos have always focused on creating opportunities for children to develop and thrive. Working towards attaining my Masters at LTU not only ignited a passion for research but it also highlighted how academics can work collaboratively with families, professionals and the Government to inform policy & practice. My research is focusing on school attendance and why children living in Bradford may refuse to access their education with an aim to develop targeted bespoke interventions for the city's children.
 
The level of support and specialist training I have received during the start of my PhD journey at LTU has been phenomenal. I am looking forward to not only developing my academic skills but to also having future opportunities to contribute to the research community, and to support other students with their learning journey at LTU.
