In episode three, you’ll explore how professional journalism is created — from planning and researching a story to filming, editing, and publishing it. You’ll learn how journalists prepare through strong research, smart questioning, how interviews are shot and produced. Then, you’ll discover the importance of careful editing, ethical decision-making, and rigorous fact-checking to ensure stories are fair, accurate, and engaging. Finally, in episode four, you’ll learn more about social responsibility and why it matters to the integrity of journalism. You’ll also take part in an activity which encourages you to think and act like a journalist and uncover a story in your local area!
Mark Hannaby is a Senior Lecturer in Journalism at the University of Chester, and the Course Leader for Sports Journalism BA (Hons). Mark teaches across all levels of our courses, including such subjects as the fundamentals of news reporting, video journalism and feature writing. Before he becoming a lecturer Mark spent 15 years as a professional journalist in every media form - print, television, radio, online and social media - working at both ITV and BBC News.
