Student life

You’ll have an unforgettable student experience with over 350 clubs and societies to try, and plenty of ways to unwind on campus or in our student friendly cities. Our Students’ Union is one of the largest in the country.

You’ll join a community of over 24,500 students where you’ll be accepted for who you are, supported, respected, listened to and valued.

Southampton is ranked the 3rd most liveable city* in the UK, with great transport links including cycle routes and the Unilink bus, which connects campuses, halls, the city centre, train and airport. There’s something for everyone, from Championship football to outdoor cinema, free galleries to nightclubs. World class venues host major artists, West End shows, open mic nights and more.

If you live in halls in Southampton, a Unilink bus pass is included in your accommodation fees.

A short bus ride away is Winchester School of Art, our arts campus in a city with a thriving arts and culture scene.

South East England is made up of nine counties, with popular student cities in Brighton & Hove, Oxford, Portsmouth, Reading, and Southampton.

The area sees plenty of sunshine and Brighton – the LGBTQ+ capital of the UK – is a student favourite, with tons of quirky shops, cafes, arts, nightlife and watersports.

Moving east into Kent, you'll find the charming towns of Whitstable, Broadstairs, and Margate – all bursting with literary history – plus the iconic landmarks of Dover’s white cliffs and Canterbury Cathedral.

London is an hour or two away for gigs, theatre trips and capital city adventures, while the country’s two largest airports – Heathrow and Gatwick – mean international journeys are easy to get started.

Campus and facilities

The University spans nine campuses: six in Southampton, one in Winchester, plus campuses in Malaysia and Delhi.

Highfield Campus is our academic heart. It’s home to the largest library, the Students’ Union, the Student Hub and spaces for study and downtime.

In a historic city and surrounded by parkland, Winchester School of Art is a creative base for art and design students.

UK campuses are well connected by bus, and some are walkable. If you're on Highfield late, the safety bus gets you home for free.

We’re investing £600m to improve and modernise campuses and give students the best experience.

Accommodation

First-year students are guaranteed accommodation, just apply by the deadline. There's a choice of locations, and range of room types to suit different students, their needs and budget.

When you arrive, we’ll make it easy to settle in. The Student Hub is open 24/7, 365 days a year, supporting everything from fees and finance to wellbeing.
