Student life
Dundee is very much a student city (around one in five people here are in university or college) so you’re never far from people your own age. It’s the UK’s only UNESCO City of Design, regularly rated as one of the best places to live in Scotland, and is often described as Scotland’s sunniest city. Our campus sits right in the city centre, so most things you’ll need are a short walk away.
The city has a lively nightlife, with plenty of bars, clubs and restaurants to choose from, plus cafés and quieter spots for when you don’t fancy a big night out. V&A Dundee, Scotland’s only design museum, and Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA) offer exhibitions, films, talks, food and drink all year round. There’s a good mix of independent shops and high street names, and for sport you’ve got two professional football clubs – Dundee and Dundee United – whose grounds sit just a few minutes apart on the same street.
It’s a compact, affordable place to live, study and work part-time – big enough to keep you busy, small enough that you get to know it quickly and feel at home.
Campus and facilities
Abertay’s compact campus sits right in Dundee city centre, with all main buildings just a few minutes’ walk from each other. Shops, bars, cafés, cinemas, gyms and the main bus and train stations are all nearby, so most of what you need day to day is on your doorstep.
Old College, the Kydd Building and the surrounding Bell Street complex are grouped around the award-winning Bernard King Library, creating a busy hub where students move between lectures, tutorials, labs and study spaces. The Abertay cyberQuarter, our £18m cybersecurity research and development centre in the Annie Lamont Centre, brings students, academics and industry together to tackle real cyber challenges – a good example of our “learn by doing” approach. On the ground floor you’ll find Annie’s, a bright café serving hot and cold food and drink, and a popular meeting spot between classes.
