Student life

At the University of Lancashire the campus is within walking distance of the city-centre of Preston, but still well-connected enough to enjoy short  journeys to Manchester or Liverpool, or further afield to the Lake District and Scotland.  Down-to-earth, multicultural and welcoming with loads of character, Preston is small enough to feel safe and friendly but large enough that staff and students happily call it home.

Preston high street has all the regular stores, but there are also lots of independent cafés and quirky little shops. Friargate is brilliant for tasty, affordable cuisine from around the world. Preston Market is perfect for fresh produce or street food.

There’s always something going on in Preston - from cinemas, bowling and escape rooms to live football. At night, the city lights up. Whether it’s laid-back pubs, buzzing nightclubs, or cool cocktail bars, or for those who prefer no alcohol, lots of late-night cafés, dessert bars and live music venues to visit.

Check out our region guide

The North West is made up of Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, and Merseyside. Its two biggest cities, Liverpool and Manchester, are global landmarks in music and football history.

The region was the heart of the industrial revolution – at one time, Lancashire produced half the world’s cotton. Many architectural reminders of this era remain, like Liverpool’s Royal Albert Docks and Chester's Victorian centre.

The stunning Lake District – home to England’s highest peak, Scafell Pike – needs no filters, while Blackpool is a seaside adventure.

Campus and facilities

Our Preston Campus is right at the heart of the city. It’s home to a thriving international community of over 42,000 students and staff. And we’ve got great transport links for commuting students.

We’ve recently spent £200m on revamping our main campus including a purpose-built Student Centre, an Engineering Innovation Centre, a multi-faith centre and the introduction of dedicated social spaces, including a rooftop garden.

Our Burnley campus, spread across three sites, is compact and friendly, and you'll benefit from small class sizes and a high level of support, with accommodation recently built, right in the town centre.

Offering excellent value for money, our Preston halls are all located on campus. As a new full-time student you’re guaranteed a place living in our halls if we’re your first choice of university. You’ll also be pleased to know that Preston is one of the most affordable cities in the UK in which to live.
