About us

Launched in 2020, the Harper & Keele Veterinary School (HKVS) is committed to equipping a new generation of vets with the skills and tools to thrive as professionals and contribute to animal, human, and planetary health.

Drawing on the combined expertise and resources of Harper Adams University and Keele University, together with a vibrant network of veterinary practice partners, students benefit from practical experience and clinical skills from the outset. Both campuses offer new state-of-the-art veterinary education buildings, and students can access the wealth of facilities at both universities.

Excellence in teaching and a broad and applied research environment ensure that our students are inspired and supported to develop a wide range of interests and careers.

What makes us different

At Harper & Keele Vet School, you’ll benefit from the combined expertise and resources of two universities, bringing together Keele’s strengths in health and life sciences with Harper Adams’ expertise in animal health and wellbeing.

Building on this partnership, we’ve developed three strategic themes, each with a focus in areas of developing and unmet need for the veterinary profession and animal health industries. These themes are woven through our teaching and research.

You’ll gain hands-on experience in a first-of-its-kind advanced primary care teaching hospital, where education and research are central to the operating model. You’ll explore new approaches to workplace performance and wellbeing through our Contextual Developmental Approach, supporting you to thrive in your career. Alongside this, you’ll develop the knowledge and skills to become an advocate for sustainable livestock health and welfare and explore the wealth of opportunities in these fields.

From the moment I interviewed at Harper & Keele back in December 2019, before the school had even opened its doors, the course stood out to me. The increased focus on practical teaching and getting hands on right from the start was fresh and innovative.
