A lot of cake decorators come into this career by first doing it as a hobby. It’s also common to move into cake decorating if you have a background in design. You can take courses like sugarcraft to help you find work. 

Some local colleges offer full-time courses in patisserie and confectionery. It may also be possible to start work through an apprenticeship.
