Extra toolkit
An Extra choice is available if they need it
Extra presents a valuable opportunity to add another choice in advance of results day. We know that some students - and even some teachers and advisers - aren't familiar with Extra, so to help you explain how it works and the benefits of using it, we've created this Extra Toolkit.
It's designed to help you reassure students who have been unsuccessful with all their choices, or those who are worried they won't secure a place.
This toolkit contains the following information:
- Class exercise (PDF) - this is designed to be flexible, so although it's arranged as a chart it can also work well as a quiz. Your students will find all the information they need in the Extra section of this website and in the Using Extra (how-to) video at www.ucas.tv. The answers (PDF) to the exercise are also included.
- Applicant FAQs (PDF) - these are for you to pass on to your students, and they can also help you answer any questions you may be asked about Extra. They are based on the most common queries we receive about this stage of the application cycle.
- Myth busters (PDF) - providing the truth behind the rumours, this sheet can be used to prompt discussion with your students.
- Template for communication with parents (PDF) - this covers the key points around Extra. You can copy and paste it in to whichever format you use to communicate with parents.
We would welcome your feedback on all the information we have provided. Did you find it useful? Did the format work for you and your students? Any comments and suggestions would be gratefully received at ucas.editors@ucas.ac.uk.
