Students hoping to become doctors, dentists or vets have until Wednesday evening to submit a completed UCAS application.

Anyone aiming to begin studying a degree in medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine/science in just under a year’s time needs to complete their UCAS application, including their personal statement and reference, by 18:00 on Wednesday 15 October 2014 – the deadline for most of these courses.

Wednesday evening at 18:00 is also the deadline for applying for any undergraduate degree course at the universities of Oxford or Cambridge.

Fatuma Mahad, UCAS’ Director of Operations said: “The first UCAS deadline of the year is crucial for anyone passionate about these courses.

“One of the biggest pieces of advice I can give is to allow yourself plenty of time. This way, you’ll be able to complete your application and have the opportunity to thoroughly check it before sending it to UCAS. You’ll also have a chance to make any changes if your teachers spot anything.

“There are also lots of tips on writing a strong personal statement on the UCAS website.”

Help is also available from UCAS advisers on Twitter (@ucas_online) and Facebook (, as well as over the phone on 0371 468 0 468.

The application deadline for most other courses and universities is Thursday 15 January 2015, although some art and design courses (check on the UCAS search tool) have a deadline of Tuesday 24 March 2015.

Applications received by these deadlines are guaranteed to be considered by the relevant universities and colleges.
