Statistical releases – daily Clearing analysis 2025

Statistical releases will be published here on 5 August and then each weekday between 14 – 29 August 2025 and on day 28 (11 September 2025), providing core numbers for the current cycle, comparison data over ten cycles, and graphical illustrations of key trends

From JCQ/SQA results day, there are 22 categories of analysis per day: age, applicant status, country of provider, deferrals, domicile, ethnic group, gender, IMD 2019, NIMDM 2017, SIMD 2012/2016/2020, WIMD 2019, POLAR4, subject group (HECoS), tariff group of provider, UK region, TUNDRA, and 6 variables relating to widening participation questions asked during the application process, as well as nursing, midwifery and Postgraduate teacher training breakdowns.

Nursing

For this cycle, we will continue to produce a subset of the reports for nursing courses. A nursing course one which has over a 50% in the CAH02-04 nursing and midwifery subject group (excluding CAH02-04-04 midwifery and CAH02-04-06 dental nursing)  These reports include those who are placed at a nursing course, as well as those who have made at least one choice to a nursing course, and are not placed elsewhere.

Scope of provision

In Scotland, there is a substantial section of provision that is not included in UCAS' figures. This is mostly full-time higher education provided in further education colleges, which represents around one third of young full-time undergraduate study in Scotland. This proportion varies by geography and background within Scotland. Accordingly, the statistics on UCAS acceptances in these data resources reflect only that majority of full-time undergraduate study that uses UCAS.

Teacher training

From the 2015 cycle onwards, applications to postgraduate teacher training programmes in Scotland were included in the UCAS Undergraduate admissions scheme – previously, these were recruited through UCAS Teacher Training. The numbers for providers in Scotland from 2015 onwards recorded through the UCAS Undergraduate scheme include those which were previously part of UCAS Teacher Training. In 2015, around 120 courses at providers in Scotland moved into the UCAS Undergraduate scheme, and it is estimated to be around 2,000 acceptances, mostly aged 21 or over.

Further information

Technical notes and definitions are available above in the help section of the dashboard.

On 12 September 2025, the qualification group data was removed from the dashboard and csv files, due to an inconsistency in the way Welsh Baccalaureate data has been grouped in the 2025 application cycle. This data will be re-released later in September.

There will be two reports additional to the data contained in the dashboard and accompanying data files:

  • Applicants going into results day who were holding an offer, and their current status. These figures will be published on each working day up to 29 August and on 11 September.
  • Applicants who have used Decline My Place and those who have since found a place. These figures will be published on 21 and 28 August and on 11 September.
