Course summary

The BA (Hons) Health and Wellbeing in Early Childhood is a forward-thinking degree designed around the vital importance of the early years (ages 0–8) for lifelong health and wellbeing. This programme focuses on the early identification of barriers and risks to wellbeing, and the creation of supportive environments that enable positive outcomes for young children and their families.

You will gain a deep understanding of child development during the crucial 0–8 stage, as well as insight into individual needs and the wider sociocultural context. In line with the priorities set out by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (2020), the course addresses reducing child inequalities, prioritising public health and early intervention, and strengthening local and cross-sector services. You will explore key concepts such as multi-agency working, critical reflection, and evidence-based practice.

Throughout your studies, you will examine personal, professional, and ethical values within health and social care practice, preparing you to work effectively with young children and their families. This degree is ideal for those aspiring to roles such as Early Help Worker, Family Health Worker, maternity healthcare support worker, midwifery assistant, or child mental health support worker.

Graduates of this programme are well-equipped to make a meaningful impact in a range of educational and health settings, supporting the wellbeing of young children and their families and helping to address some of the most pressing challenges in early childhood today.
