Course summary

The Opera Performance programme is available as two-year, full-time course. This programme provides advanced training relevant to the requirements and demands of professional opera companies. In this two-year MMus programme, you move from a first year of vocal performance work (together with the MMus Music Performance vocal cohort) into a second year focusing on operatic performance in a range of forms, including opportunities available through our close association with Welsh National Opera (WNO).

During the application and audition process, you must select which instrument(s) you wish to specialise in for the duration of your course. On this course, you can choose from the following options:

Instrument/specialisms

For all courses, you must select at least one specialism from the 'primary' list. For those studying primary/secondary pathways, two instruments may be selected – one from the 'primary' list and one from the 'secondary' list. Joint pathway students may select any two instruments from either list.

Entry requirements

Entry is by audition, and you should be able to demonstrate a level of performance ability appropriate for professional training.

Minimum entry requirements usually include a 2:1 degree in music or an equivalent qualification, although we are able to consider applications from people without formal qualifications if they have an exceptional level of ability, practical experience and a good understanding of the opera profession.

Regardless of how you intend to audition all applicants are required to create an Acceptd profile and application. You should expect to be ready to do this at the point of submitting your UCAS application (https://app.getacceptd.com/rwcmd).

Assessment locations

In the event of a successful assessment, applicants may be invited for a further interview prior to being made an offer.

Remote assessment recordings may be accepted in the event that you cannot attend an assessment in person.
