Course summary

This course is the first year of our BA (Hons) Music Production & DJ Performance degree.

The CertHE Music Production & DJ Performance will give you a grounding in the skills and knowledge required to start out as a music producer/DJ/performer in today’s competitive music industry.  You'll learn music production/composition techniques using Logic or Ableton Live, DJ skills, along with the music industry and key revenue streams so you can understand what it takes to start your music career upon graduation.

The curriculum has been designed to reflect the music industry, with an emphasis on practical skills using the latest software/technology and music industry practices. Our lecturers have extensive industry experience (e.g. Pharrell Williams, The Chemical Brothers, Massive Attack), as well as qualified expertise in teaching at degree level.  In addition to industry-based techniques, graduate skills which are valuable to employers are embedded into the programme. These include writing and presentation/communication skills, research skills and critical analysis.

Learning is supported by tutorial videos, study aids, course notes, project examples and formative tasks to help you complete your assessments. You can regularly meet your lecturers outside of class to receive valuable feedback on their progress. Class sizes are small, ensuring productive learning environments.

You'll have the chance to use your performance assessment videos on this course to apply to play at exclusive AlphaTheta / Pioneer DJ events, including ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event) and IMS Ibiza (International Music Summit). There are further opportunities to perform at student showcase nights, termly DJ events, gigs at renowned venues like Ministry of Sound and fabric, and an annual competition to DJ at Elrow’s legendary parties!
