Course summary

This new two-year Foundation Degree is perfect for aspiring concept artists who want to design characters, worlds, and stories for games, film, and animation. You will build a strong foundation in anatomy, perspective, and gesture, alongside Character Design and Environmental Design to create compelling characters and immersive worlds. You will master industry-standard 2D and 3D software and workflows in our state-of-the-art digital studios, featuring 24-inch Cintiq Pro tablets, green screen, stop-motion facilities, and immersive screens. Through modules on narrative and storytelling, portfolio development, and live briefs, you will gain practical experience and industry insight. You will work on live briefs and benefit from industry expertise through our specialist lectures and workshops. You will also work on personal and professional development modules to set up creative and professional social media and portfolios. 'Students as Producer' provides opportunities for you to undertake cross disciplinary work with students from other vocational areas. In your final project, you will produce a complete concept art package for an original IP or client brief—showcasing your creativity and technical expertise. On successful completion of this course, you can progress onto on of our one-year BA (Hons) (Top-Up) degree course to take your Foundation Degree to a full Honours Degree qualification. Alternatively, you may want to enter the creative industries with a solid portfolio and practical experience.

Year One: Skills for Success, Vocational Skills, Fundamentals of Drawing, Character Design, Environmental Design, Prop and Artifact Production. Year Two: Pre-Professional Identity, Vocational Work Project, Narrative and Storytelling, Advanced Digital Techniques, Concept Production.
