I am from a small town called Mirfield, and so moving to Leeds for University has been a huge step for me, I was not used to the city lifestyle at all. From 2016-2018 I studied Art, Photography and Psychology A-Levels at Princethorpe College, Rugby, and after not being too sure of what I wanted to study at university I decided to throw myself into full time employment. I then came across the Specialist Hair and Media Make-Up course here at University College Birmingham and applied in 2020. Moving cities during the pandemic was very strange, however I soon became very comfortable at The Maltings where I lived with the majority of my classmates. After three years of study, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree and I have now moved onto studying Prosthetics for Film and Television MA. Alongside the masters degree, University College Birmingham gave me the opportunity to work for them as an intern in the Marketing Department as part of the masters internship bursary scheme, where my course is paid for in the form of 400 hours of work over the academic year (September-July), which has been a huge benefit for myself financially. I also work as a part time front of house team member at a restaurant in Birmingham city centre, I enjoy this job a lot as I get to interact with lots of different people, I also feel very accepted there as I am free to express myself with my piercings, tattoos and makeup.

I am a second-year PhD student in Film Studies, with a research focus on the intersection of artificial intelligence and documentary filmmaking, particularly through the use of oral histories. My work explores how AI can be applied to enhance and transform traditional documentary storytelling, examining both its creative potential and ethical considerations. I’m especially interested in how AI can help preserve and interpret personal narratives, expanding the ways we capture and share human experiences. My goal is to push the boundaries of documentary film by integrating innovative technologies while respecting the rich history of the genre.

Hi my name is Beth! I am second year veterinary medicine student. I have a lot of ideas for my future as a qualified vet and I have not yet decided which path I want to take. I would love to work with various charities in different countries around the world, but i also love the idea of working in a mixed practice with both farm and small animals. I have also become more interested in the idea of working in emergency practice or end of life care. I like staying active in various ways, I love climbing and football and have also learned to scuba dive with the society and university.
