I help run the theatre arts society, planning games nights, themed dress up nights and much more for anyone who loves theatre! I am also greatly involved in student life, in my roles as student ambassador, student representative and peer mentor. I love supporting my peers have the best time at Essex! In my third year I completed a year studying at the University of Windsor in Canada, making amazing friends, adapting to a new education system and of course travelling. My name is Kimaro Novat Kairuntu, a PhD student at the University of Essex in the UK. My educational background is a blend of economics and mathematics, with a Bachelor’s degree in these disciplines. I advanced my expertise by earning an MSc in Applied Mathematics, where I deepened my understanding of complex mathematical concepts and their real-world applications. Currently, my PhD research focuses on financial derivatives, a field that combines my passion for mathematical modeling with practical financial applications.
Looking ahead, my career plans involve advancing the intersection of applied mathematics and finance, particularly in financial derivatives. My educational journey and professional experiences have provided me with a strong foundation to contribute meaningfully to both academia and industry. I am eager to develop innovative research and practical solutions that address financial challenges.

Hi! I’m a first-year MSc Physiotherapy (pre-registration) student at the University of Essex, where I also completed my undergraduate degree in Sports Therapy. I began my journey here at just 17, moving to a completely new country and learning to live independently—it was definitely a challenge, but along the way I’ve picked up lots of tips and tricks that I’d love to share.

Over the past two years, I’ve been actively involved with the V Team and have lived on campus throughout my time here, so I’ve gained plenty of experience with student life, accommodation, and all things Essex.
