London
Raindance is an accredited film school with a fierce independent spirit. Raindance has been teaching novice and experienced filmmakers since 1992. Our ethos is focused on independence, and our courses are designed for you to develop your skills
your way, in your style.
The organisation was founded in 1992 by Elliot Grove as a thought experiment:
CAN YOU MAKE A FILM WITH NO MONEY, NO TRAINING AND NO EXPERIENCE?
Based in the heart of London, Raindance comprises the Raindance Film Festival, along with hands-on, industry-focused courses in filmmaking, screenwriting, and acting.
In October 1993, the Raindance Film Festival was born, held at London’s Prince Charles Cinema and Ciné Lumiére. The festival runs annually in June in London’s West End.
In 1998, Raindance created the British Independent Film Awards, an annual celebration of the best UK independent films of the year held in December. Top honours have been awarded to Billy Elliot, This Is England, Aftersun, All of Us Are Strangers, Santosh.

For any aspiring filmmaker, screenwriter, or actor, having their work showcased at a film festival is often the first major step into the industry. Festivals provide a crucial platform for emerging talent to gain exposure, connect with industry professionals, and establish their presence in the cinematic world.
Now in its 33rd year, the Raindance Film Festival has been a steadfast champion of independent cinema, offering our students the invaluable opportunity to have their films screened alongside groundbreaking works from around
the world. This recognition not only validates their creative vision but also serves as a launchpad for their careers, helping them build networks, secure funding, and gain critical acclaim.
