Student life

Our students talk passionately about the unique culture of Royal Holloway and a ‘feel’ they love. You’ll quickly get to know your fellow students and tutors and will soon recognise faces as you walk around campus.

Our accommodation has something for everyone, from traditional university living in the Grade I listed Founder’s Building to modern shared flats and townhouses. We guarantee a place in halls to all first-year undergraduates who firmly accept their offer and apply by our deadline.

You can get involved with as many of our 100+ sports clubs and societies as you wish, whether you want to sing, dance, game, debate, keep fit or simply meet like-minded people. There’s also a thriving music community and media opportunities, including a university newspaper, magazine, radio station and TV studio.

There’s a sports centre on campus, with a well-equipped gym, dance studio and sports hall, and outdoor facilities, including tennis courts, sports fields and all-weather floodlit pitch.

What's it like to live in South East?
Check out our region guide

South East England is made up of nine counties, with popular student cities in Brighton & Hove, Oxford, Portsmouth, Reading, and Southampton.

The area sees plenty of sunshine and Brighton – the LGBTQ+ capital of the UK – is a student favourite, with tons of quirky shops, cafes, arts, nightlife and watersports.

Moving east into Kent, you'll find the charming towns of Whitstable, Broadstairs, and Margate – all bursting with literary history – plus the iconic landmarks of Dover’s white cliffs and Canterbury Cathedral.

London is an hour or two away for gigs, theatre trips and capital city adventures, while the country’s two largest airports – Heathrow and Gatwick – mean international journeys are easy to get started.

All this is set within 135 acres of parkland, providing a tranquil escape and a chance to relax your body and mind.

We’re also ideally placed with plenty to do in the local area, including opportunities for part-time jobs, but also easily accessible to and from London, with everything the capital has to offer.
