Student life
Sheffield Hallam University is one of the UK's largest universities, based across two campuses, in one of the UK's biggest student cities.
Our city is friendly, creative and scenic — and best of all, it’s surprisingly cheap. Sheffield is the most affordable student city in England (Uni Compare 2025) the cost of living is well below the national average, and thanks to the 60,000-strong student community you’ll find discounts around every corner.
In your first year we guarantee you an offer of student accommodation, living with other Hallam students within walking distance of campus. Sheffield is one of the most affordable cities in the UK for student accommodation (Cushman & Wakefield 2025) and some of our halls start from £100 with all bills included.
At Hallam you'll have tons of chances to get involved with your student community, through activities, sports, volunteering and your Students' Union. Plus, there's plenty of support here to help you study and enjoy your time here.
Campus and facilities
We’ve invested hundreds of millions in our facilities, so you’ll learn in the same environment you’ll find in your future workspace.
The university is based across two campuses: City Campus and Collegiate Campus.
City Campus is in the middle of Sheffield city centre, just minutes from the bus and train stations. The buildings you study in are surrounded by shops, cafes, sports centres and cinemas — everything in the city centre is right on your doorstep. We’ve opened three brand new net-zero ready buildings and green spaces with world-class teaching, learning and research facilities.
Collegiate Campus is in the Ecclesall Road student district, which mixes some of Sheffield’s best bars, shops and restaurants with stunning parks for studying in the sunshine.
