About us

We partner with UK universities and industry leaders to deliver a range of courses with excellent teaching at their heart, at Higher National Certificate/Diploma, Foundation Degree, full Honours Degree, professional qualification and Postgraduate level.

There’s something really special about studying here. Our campus is a thriving, close-knit and supportive environment where smaller class sizes give you vital one-to-one and personalised support that you won’t get elsewhere.

What sets UCO apart is that you will get one of the best student experiences in the UK. In 2022 we were rated top across Greater Manchester for Overall Satisfaction in the National Student Satisfaction Survey. This ranks UCO higher than all other regional FE colleges – and also puts us 12.5 per cent above the HE sector average.

UCO is Oldham’s ‘hidden gem’ and our staff take great pride in their mission of developing the next generation of industry leaders, entrepreneurs, creatives, teachers and frontline heroes.

What makes us different

UCO offers something very different from residential-based courses at universities where you often arrive as just one person in a cohort of hundreds of students. UCO’s smaller class sizes allow expert tutors to offer you a distinctive experience: one that prides itself on additional one-to-one and personalised support that you won’t get elsewhere.

That’s a fact that is borne out by the independent National Students’ Survey (2022) results which see UCO’s rating across all eight questionnaire areas outperforming the sector averages. In four of these: Assessment and Feedback, Academic Support, Learning Community and Student Voice, UCO is double-digit percentage scores ahead of the sector and ranks in the top 10 per cent UK-wide.

What you also get at UCO is a course that is firmly focused on the needs of the regional economy. We work closely with employers to ensure all courses are tailored to developing the skills they look for alongside speaker visits, masterclasses and work placements.

Initially, I was nervous at the thought of juggling a degree, working and being a single parent. But from the outset these concerns were diminished and I received support and advice whenever I needed it, which has allowed me to regain confidence and push myself towards my end goal of achieving a First!
