Qualification report

We’d like to remind you of the extensive materials we have about qualification reform.

Posted Wed 5 October 2016
  • Our qualification reform web page provides a wealth of information about what is happening across the UK. This includes our qualification reform guide, the outputs from our two A level surveys ‘Unpacking Qualification Reform’ and a list of university and college qualification reform statements.
  • Our Applying to HE with reformed qualifications page provides a detail insight into how the sector is responding to qualification reform, and the FAQs we’re receiving about qualification reform.
  • Our qualification reform timeline shows the flow of reformed qualifications.
  • Our Progression pathways report provides a detailed insight into the vocational progression route.

We have also made a number of operational changes to support the sector with the changing qualification landscape, including:

  • allocating differential exam level codes to AS qualifications for the 2016 entry cycle. Provider feedback has been positive, and we intend to allocate differential exam level codes to reformed A level qualifications in the 2017 entry cycle
  • providing referees with the ability to predict whether a learner will pass their practical assessment in science A levels taken in England. In 2018, learners who have passed their achieved qualifications will be able to indicate this in Apply. View the guidance for HEPs regarding this change in our technical briefing.
  • inclusion of the science practical grade within ABL – details will be confirmed in November
  • adding reformed qualifications to UCAS Apply, such as numerical GCSEs and reformed vocational qualification titles
We will continue to keep you updated regarding these developments in the coming months. If you have any questions, please contact Ben Jordan, Senior Policy Executive, at b.jordan@ucas.ac.uk.
