Summary

This session will explore how teachers, careers advisors and outreach practitioners can support disabled learners navigate the transition to higher education. It will include: 
  • The importance of transition period, communications and timeframes to establish support 
  • The differences between school/college and university from a student perspective, including terminology, processes, advocacy and expectations
  • Disabled Students' Allowance and how universities apply reasonable adjustments.
  • Examples of how universities can support disabled learners during transition 
  • Signposting to other sources of information and support
