University of ReadingBA English Language and LinguisticsI’m an international student with a diverse background, having lived across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. I’m currently studying English Language and Linguistics, having completed a foundation year as part of my four-year degree programme. Linguistics is a subject I’m deeply passionate about, and I aspire to become a university lecturer one day, sharing that enthusiasm with future students. Outside of my studies, I enjoy reading, travelling, and bouldering. I’m always happy to share my experience of studying linguistics and life as an international student, so feel free to reach out. Maddie
University of LincolnSpeech and Language Therapy (Pre-registration) - MScHi, I'm Maddie. I'm studying a masters in Speech and Language Therapy at Lincoln. I'm passionate about travelling, languages and trying out new food spots wherever I go. My previous degree was in Spanish and Linguistics and I lived in Spain on my year abroad so I understand how it can feel to be an international student. I'm also into fitness: I love yoga, running and am recently getting into squash. Natasha
University of EssexSpeech and Language TherapyHi! I’m Natasha, a second-year BSc Speech & Language Therapy student. My journey to SLT wasn't a straight line. I previously worked professionally as a singer and performing arts teacher, but my path changed when my father suffered a stroke while living abroad. Seeing the gaps in his rehabilitation and his struggle to access speech therapy sparked a deep desire in me to help others find their voice. I decided to take the leap as a mature student to turn my fascination with the voice into a career that makes a real-life impact. Life on Course My favourite parts of the degree so far have been the clinical placements. There is nothing quite like being out in the field to cement your learning and put all that theory into perspective! I’ve also particularly enjoyed the dysphagia workshops, which are fascinating. Beyond the Lecture Theatre When I’m not studying, I’m usually found on stage. I’m currently in rehearsals for 9 to 5, playing the gossiping office manager, Roz! I am also very active in university life as a Student Rep, Student Ambassador, and Vice President of the SLT Society. As a disabled student on campus, I am also happy to chat about navigating university life, accessing support, or what the inclusive environment is like here. My Top Tip If I could give you one piece of advice: Make the most of your lecturers! They are experts in their fields, and the conversations you have with them outside of formal lessons are absolutely invaluable. Whether you're curious about being a mature student, performing arts, or the specifics of the SLT course, please feel free to reach out. I’m here to help! Soraya

University of EssexModern LanguagesI am a final-year student at the University of Essex's Colchester campus, so I have had a very long time here to come to know a lot of things about this place. Over my three years, I have had a broad range of experiences that university has to offer, from getting involved in sports and societies, to using the careers services, to completing a paid internship in a subject related to my degree. Applying to university, I knew that I wanted to study modern languages, but didn't study a language at A-Level, which definitely threw a spanner into a lot of things. As a 16/17 year old, I just didn't think that far ahead in my life- which is normal. I am living proof that, to an extent, this does not need to be the end of your plans to go to uni. As for me as an individual, I am interested in art and music- which I also make, and I also enjoy hiking, cycling and swimming on occassion. I'm also on the autistic spectrum. After graduating this year, my plan is to go and do a year working in a Spanish school, and then hopefully come back home and do a course on TEFL, all of which the academic staff are supporting me to do. King's College LondonEuropean Studies: French pathway with a Year AbroadI studied biology, chemistry, and French at A Level before coming to King's. After university, I am looking to work in local government and perhaps re-apply to the civil service fast stream Fleur
University of EssexEuropean StudiesHello there, nice to meet you! My name is Fleur and I am studying European Studies at Essex. I love my course because it allows me to study a lot of different topics, such as history, politics, sustainability, philosophy, and even recently a bit of economics! While I'm not completely certain what I would like to do after leaving University, I know that I would like to contribute to making the world a better place, whether that be through working in social policy, a non-profit organisation, or an area contributing to reducing the climate crisis. Outside of university I am very interested in arts and crafts, and I love to curl up on a rainy day and crochet while listening to music, which is another hobby of mine. I love all things to do with music, playing musical instruments and listening to all different genres! I'm not incredibly sporty but I do enjoy going on walks in my beautiful hometown, along with swimming in pools and rivers (although the fish do scare me a bit). Archery is another interest of mine, and I've really enjoyed getting involved at the University Club! Gruff
