Student life

When you study with The Open University, you’ll have access to a thriving student community. We want you to get the most out of your university experience, so expect plenty of opportunities to make friends, develop your skills and feel supported. The beauty of the OU is that you can get involved with social activities as much or as little as you like.

Be part of something special: You’ll be part of the UK’s biggest student community, known as the ‘OU family’. Attend meetups and events online or in-person, get involved with the Students Association, and find new friends or hobbies through a club or society.

Learn with others: You can connect with students on your course through your tutor group and join dedicated online forums to chat about your studies, ask questions and work on any group projects.

Boost your skills: We can help you find work experience or volunteering opportunities while you’re studying to develop new skills and build your CV.

Campus and facilities

Forget the limits of a physical campus. With the OU, you can study online when and wherever you like – at the weekend, at home, at a friend’s house, even while travelling. You decide when and where you learn best.

You’ll still get all the support and facilities of a brick university – just with unrivalled flexibility. The only thing you need is an internet connection and you’ll be good to go. It’s just one of the reasons why over 195,000 students study with us each year.
