What's it like to live in South East?
Check out our region guide
South East England is made up of nine counties, with key student cities being Brighton & Hove, Oxford, Portsmouth, Reading, and Southampton.
The area sees more sunshine than anywhere else in the UK – perfect, given its coastal treasures. Brighton – ‘the LGBT capital of the UK’ – is a student favourite, with tons of quirky shops and cafes.
Moving east, Kent’s charming towns – like Whitstable, Broadstairs, and Margate – are bursting with literary history, plus iconic landmarks like Dover’s white cliffs and Canterbury Cathedral.
London is just a one – two hour train ride away for gigs, theatre trips etc., while the country’s two largest airports – Heathrow and Gatwick – make travelling abroad simple.
