Student support
The Student Support Team is the heart of SAE. They’re the people who make sure no student slips through the cracks. From your first week to your final project, they’re there with advice, encouragement, and practical help. If you’re struggling with your studies, your confidence, or even just finding your rhythm, they’ll listen and help you find your feet again.
The team covers everything from learning support and mental health to wellbeing, finance, and accessibility. They can help with dyslexia screenings, support you through Disabled Students’ Allowance applications, and make sure you have the right adjustments in place to learn comfortably. They’ll also connect you to extra help if you need it, whether that’s counselling, academic guidance, or specialist resources.
Mental health is taken seriously at SAE. The support isn’t hidden away or hard to access. There are drop-in sessions, wellbeing events, and safe spaces where you can talk without judgement. If you need professional help, free counselling sessions are available, and the staff treat every conversation with care and confidentiality. The message is clear: you can be creative and still take care of yourself.
SAE also partners with Togetherall, an online community where students can share experiences, talk things through, and get support from trained professionals and peers, all anonymously. It’s open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which means help is always just a click away, whether it’s a sleepless night before a deadline or a moment of self-doubt halfway through a project.
Financial support is another key part of the picture. SAE offers bursaries and scholarships for a range of circumstances, including the MySAE Bursary, Care-Experienced and Estranged Students Bursary, and an Additional Support Fund for those in financial difficulty. These programmes are designed to ease the pressure so students can focus on their creative goals instead of worrying about bills.
If something happens that shouldn’t, SAE’s “You Report, We Support” system makes it easy to speak up. Whether it’s bullying, harassment, discrimination, or any other kind of misconduct, students can report concerns anonymously or in confidence. Every report is handled sensitively and quickly, ensuring that everyone on campus feels safe and respected.
Student voice matters here. Representatives are elected from each course to bring feedback straight to staff. Meetings happen regularly, and the school actually acts on what students say. SAE’s “You said, we did” campaigns show the changes made directly from student suggestions, whether it’s improving studio access, updating equipment, or creating new wellbeing spaces.
There’s also strong commitment to inclusion and access. SAE works hard to open its doors to students from all backgrounds through its Access and Participation Plan. Courses are structured flexibly, including accelerated two-year degrees, so students can complete qualifications faster and more affordably.
Everything at SAE is built around one simple idea: creativity flourishes when students feel supported. The Student Support Team, Togetherall, financial aid, and wellbeing initiatives all exist to make sure students can thrive academically, personally, and professionally.
Because at SAE, success isn’t just about producing great work, it’s about becoming a healthy, confident, and connected creative.
