As Admissions Lead, Gerard ensures the smooth running of the admission process. Additionally, Gerard leads the clinical skills teaching on the undergraduate medicine degree (MBBS), focusing on not only the patient examinations skills, but the students’ clinical communication skills. Gerard is also interested in medical education assessment, and has focused his research activity on this area, with particular regard to clinical skills OSCEs.

Professionally, Gerard remains an active general practitioner, as well as a medical educator. He is a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners, and a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
