Can university improve graduate employability prospects?
Summary
When choosing a degree, students frequently state employability as a significant reason for their choice. Research conducted by Alterline also found teachers/advisers thought employability should be an important factor in a young person’s decision to go to university but questioned if university really improves this.
This session led by the universities of Warwick and Birmingham will explore how university helps to improve employability even when studying a non-vocational subject. It will include graduate employers, for example PWC, outlining what they look for in candidates and ways to develop this whilst at university including opportunities they provide to help, plus advice regarding relevance of degree subject in securing employment after university. Alumni and final year students from both universities will also talk about their experience of developing employability skills while at university and how this has helped them to progress in their careers.
