What's it like to live in North West?
Check out our region guide

The North West is made up of Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, and Merseyside. Its two biggest cities, Liverpool and Manchester, are global landmarks in music and football history.

The region was the heart of the industrial revolution – at one time, Lancashire produced half the world’s cotton. Many architectural reminders of this era remain, like Liverpool’s Royal Albert Docks and Chester's Victorian centre.

The stunning Lake District – home to England’s highest peak, Scafell Pike – needs no filters, while Blackpool is a seaside adventure.

Campus and facilities

Our exceptional facilities provide a first-class training ground for you to hone your craft – and we're continually investing.

We're based across two Grade II listed buildings – The Institute and The Art School. These were formerly the Liverpool Institute for Boys (Paul McCartney and George Harrison's old school) and the Liverpool College of Art (where John Lennon studied). As well as providing high-end rehearsal and performance spaces for performers, students on technical subjects have access to the latest equipment to enable you to produce professional-standard work.

Our performance spaces are in constant use for teaching on our technical courses, as well as rehearsals and performances from students studying performance-based subjects, and masterclasses. Each year over 50 performances take place.

As well as serving food and drink, the LIPA bar and canteen are the hub of social activity with both spaces licensed for performances.
