Student life

As well as studying, you'll make friends for life, explore your potential and discover new passions. In the city of Preston you get to enjoy the best of both worlds – a buzzing student city right on your doorstep, together with beautiful green spaces to relax and unwind in.

The city is home to the usual high street stores and restaurants, as well as quirky cafes, independent bistros and tapas bars. When night falls the city really comes alive. You can dine on cuisine from every corner of the world, sip cocktails in speakeasy-style lounges, drink local ales in historic taverns, or dance the night away in a club. Fun-seekers can find cinemas, bowling alleys, escape rooms, skateparks, and live football at Preston North End’s Deepdale Stadium.

Every student is automatically a member of the Students’ Union. As a member you can get involved in all sorts of activities, opportunities and events. Plus there are over 100 clubs and societies you can join!

What's it like to live in North West?
Check out our region guide

The North West is made up of Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, and Merseyside. Its two biggest cities, Liverpool and Manchester, are global landmarks in music and football history.

The region was the heart of the industrial revolution – at one time, Lancashire produced half the world’s cotton. Many architectural reminders of this era remain, like Liverpool’s Royal Albert Docks and Chester's Victorian centre.

The stunning Lake District – home to England’s highest peak, Scafell Pike – needs no filters, while Blackpool is a seaside adventure.

Campus and facilities

Our Preston Campus is right at the heart of the city, just minutes away from a vibrant shopping centre, attractions and nightlife. It’s home to a thriving international community of over 38,000 students and staff. And we’ve got great transport links for commuting students.

We’ve recently spent £200m on revamping our main campus including a brand-new Student Centre, an Engineering Innovation Centre, a new multi-faith centre and the introduction of dedicated social spaces.

Our Burnley campus, spread across three sites, is compact and friendly, and you'll benefit from small class sizes and a high level of support, with accommodation recently built, right in the town centre.

Offering excellent value for money, our Preston halls are all located on campus. As a new full-time student you’re guaranteed a place living in our halls if we’re your first choice of university. You’ll also be pleased to know that Preston is in the top 10 most affordable cities in the UK in which to live.
