Sharing a mental health condition: What you need to know

Wed 26 July 2023 - 11:57

By Student Minds in Support

Disclosing that you have a mental health condition can feel daunting. It’s understandable to wonder who will find out about your condition or whether it will impact how you are treated on your course. Letting UCAS know can help you access the support you need. When you share your mental health condition through UCAS, you have certain rights to privacy and reasonable adjustments which can set you up for success in your studies.

Getting support early can help you maintain good mental wellbeing and means you get the help you’re entitled to as soon as possible. Sharing your condition is a personal choice, but knowing your rights before you share and the benefits of doing so can help you make an informed decision.

How to tell if you’re lonely

‘Lonely’ isn’t the same as ‘alone’. You can have lots of friends and still feel lonely, but you can also be quite content spending time on your own. Here are some suggestions to help you think about how you...

Tue 20 August 2019 - 10:43

By NCS in Support

By NCS graduate, Georgie Burgess, from Birmingham.

I’d really recommend volunteering. I started by taking part in the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme in the summer after my GCSEs, and have continued volunteering through sixth form and my university studies. Giving back has changed my outlook on life. It’s also a great way to try out new things and push yourself to do whatever you can.

What was good about the NCS scheme? It gave me the opportunity to get involved in a local community project, addressing a real social need but in a supported and structured way. We decided to ask the public to sign a petition to...
