What does a personal assistant do?

As a personal assistant (or PA), you’ll be responsible for the administrative and secretarial duties in an office for a company director, senior manager or elected official. You’ll need excellent organisation skills, IT skills and excellent communication skills. You’ll be the first port of call for people trying to contact the person you are working for.

You could be working in a variety of sectors from accounting, business and finance, through to medical and nursing – you may need to learn about sector specific terminology and ways of working.


What do I need to do to become a personal assistant?

You do not need any specific qualifications to become a personal assistant, however a typing qualification and experience as an administrative assistant is highly desirable.
