Matthew Welbourn

Professional Development Manager, UCAS

Biography

Matthew joined UCAS in 2004, working initially within UCAS’ Customer Experience Centre, supporting the 1.5 million customer interactions received annually through its telephone and email enquiry services.

Matthew subsequently progressed into UCAS’ Professional Development Team. In nine years as a Professional Development Executive, including a year seconded as UCAS’ International Executive, Matthew led on the provision of training and professional development on UCAS process, procedure, and key issues that impact on progression to UK higher education (HE), delivering hundreds of sessions throughout the breadth of the UK and across the globe. Matthew has extensive experience of supporting customers in both the HE and pre-HE sectors – working with further education, HE and university admissions, recruitment and outreach staff, teachers, careers advisers and agents, and also engaging with parents and young people on UCAS applications and undertaking the transition to HE.

As the Professional Development Manager, Matthew is now responsible for all UCAS’ customer-facing training delivered by the Professional Development Team, including a comprehensive portfolio of face-to-face training, supplemented by the continued development of a programme of UCAS eLearning modules.

Passionate about lifelong learning, Matthew hopes to embark upon a master’s programme in the fields of education and training management later this year.
